The Countdown Begins!

The countdown for The Year of Megan-in-Asia begins! :)

Welcome to my blog! My name is Megan Carriker and I am currently a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am double majoring in Asian Studies and Advertising. Due to my love of Asian Studies and the cultures of Asia, I am studying abroad and going many places this year! As I explore Asia this year, I will blog and share as much as possible during my trips through Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and China.

Right now I am still in the preparation stages and planning my website and blog. The preparation for this trip has been a lot of work so far! Because there are diseases in Asia that are much different than the ones here in the United States, I have had to take extra precautions against hepatitis, malaria, and typhoid to be as safe as possible. Aside from that, planning for this trip has also been a lot of fun!

Since one of the official languages of Singapore is Chinese and that is the language I am currently studying, I will share my knowledge of the language as I also learn new things! My next post will explain how Chinese compares to English, especially with all of the tones, dialects, and characters that are so different from this language.
